About Rare Nature Floristry
I have always loved all things floral, be it gardening my own garden, visiting others or working in the floristry industry. I am well known for persuading my family to visit the local floristry attraction on our family holidays to get a new inspiration fix. It’s fascinating how flowers are at the core of humanity in all cultures around the globe, be it for celebrations, funerals, or religious offerings, and I love bringing back new ideas to try in my own work.
I professionally trained some years ago, but have moved some distance from the rules and regulations I learned when I qualified. At the core of what I do now is sustainability and the effect my business has on the nature around me. I always ask myself, “Can I do this using sustainable products?”. It may take more time and more energy, but I feel so much happier knowing that the footprint I am leaving is a natural one - mostly. Hence, my works is a very relaxed and free form throughout. With my workshops in particular, I love making things which have that quirky and natural nod to nature. I am committed to re-using products over and over again where possible and only use plastic when there is no other alternative.
Values
Sustainability is at the core of Rare Nature, so where possible I am using local suppliers of flowers. I am happy to be able to offer seasonal workshops throughout the spring and summer using my very local suppliers. For these workshops we meet at the cutting garden and pick our own blooms and return to Blackhurst to arrange our beautiful flowers!
